About Us

Focus on Learning Center is a private educational and testing resource center established by Ene-Kaja Chippendale, Ph.D.  Dr. Chippendale and her experienced, professional faculty have been helping students with their educational needs since 1985.  Focus on Learning offers students (kindergarten thru graduate school) individual tutoring in most subjects, ACT prep, study skills, speed reading, college consulting, and so much more!

We recognize that children have different learning styles and that it is, therefore, a mistake to put them through a lock-step, one-size-fits-all curriculum.  We look for each student’s strengths and build on them to optimize learning.  Focus is a small oasis where a child/student can come and, through one-on-one instruction with an excellent teacher, unlock his/her potential, regain self-respect and develop confidence.

Every child should feel successful in school.

Our program includes

• Tutoring in a wide range of subjects, ranging from reading and writing to advanced math and sciences and foreign languages
• Study skills
• ACT, PSAT, SAT, GRE, and LSAT prep
• College counseling for finding the right school and getting maximum scholarship dollars.

Our services are unique because

ü  Our instruction is one-one-one, which means each student receives the full attention of the teacher.  A single hour at Focus is roughly equivalent to 3 sessions where students work in groups of 3.

ü  All of our teachers are well-educated and experienced content specialists with many years of teaching experience in their subject. 

ü  Students meet with the same teacher every week, which develops an optimal learning environment for growth.

ü  We do not offer a one-size-fits-most curriculum.  No two students have the same learning style.

ü  We are current with the latest educational development.

ü  Testing is not required for every student, but recommended for some.  We evaluate the need for testing on a case-by-case basis.

ü  We do not commit the parent/student to a long-term contract, though we will recommend an optimal plan.
